Tom Holland Confirms Plans For New 'Spider-Man' Trilogy

This summer’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” marks a rare, big studio alliance between Sony and Marvel, as they team up to revive the character. However, Peter Parker’s association with the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be shortlived. While the web slinger will jump into action in “Avengers: Infinity War,” this spring producer Amy Pascal suggested that Spider-Man would have a limited time rolling those other big screen superheroes, but that hardly means Sony is done with the character. They’ve already set a 2019 release date for the ‘Homecoming’ sequel, and that’s not all.

In an interview with Allocine (via Comic Book), Tom Holland teased that there was much more to come for his character, including an arc that covers an entire trilogy.

“There is still plenty of room to see Peter grow up Parker and especially Spider-Man in the next two movies, and at the end of ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming,’ the story is definitely not complete, I’m really looking forward to exploring how it will grow, [and to] see what will happen after puberty. Yes, [they’re] going to be exciting movies,” he said.

“Yes, there will be ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming 2’ and ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming 3,’ ” Holland added.
Of course, anyone could’ve guessed Sony was going to go down that path. But let’s hope they don’t stumble into the same mistake they did with “The Amazing Spider-Man,” where they announced a trilogy and series of villains around Spidey’s villains, only for everything to stop after “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” underwhelmed critically and missed the mark commercially. (Don’t forget, Sony is also gearing a new batch of villain flicks, starting with Venom” starring Tom Hardy).
That said, these days you don’t get big rewards without taking a big swing. “Spider-Man: Homecoming” opens on July 7th.
