'The Quarry' Trailer: Michael Shannon Faces Off Against Shea Whigham In This Upcoming Thriller

Despite being a name that has been nominated for an Oscar and has been featured in a ton of major films, Michael Shannon is still one of those actors that has yet to rise to the upper echelon of A-listers as he deserves. Shea Whigham, while not as well-known as Shannon, is also a great actor that is still searching for that role that will push him over the edge into superstardom. And thankfully, for film fans, at least, we get to see the two actors face off in the upcoming thriller “The Quarry.”

As mentioned, just knowing the film stars Shannon and Whigham should be enough for most people to want to check out “The Quarry.” But if you still need a bit of convincing, the plot for the film should suffice. “The Quarry” tells the story of a small town in Texas that welcomes a new reverend into town (Whigham). However, the new religious leader isn’t exactly the pious man they might be led to believe, and he becomes the subject of a new investigation by the town’s police chief (Shannon). As you might expect, things get throw into chaos and secrets are revealed as the town finds itself caught in the middle.

“The Quarry” is set to arrive on VOD and in select theaters on April 17. The film was scheduled to have its world premiere at this year’s SXSW Film Festival before that event was canceled due to coronavirus. Thankfully, it appears the film will still be available for folks that want to check it out.

Here’s the synopsis:

From the novel by Damon Galgut comes this searing thriller, a tale of sin and redemption set in the wilds of Texas. After murdering a traveling preacher, a fugitive drifter (Shea Whigham, Joker) travels to a small town and poses as the man he killed. Though the congregation loves the drifter’s sermons of forgiveness, the local police chief (Academy Award® nominee Michael Shannon, The Shape of Water) is suspicious of the man. Soon a gruesome discovery at a local quarry forces the killer to fight for his freedom.
