Got a Tip?

Rafe Spall Joins The Cast Of Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’

British up and comer Rafe Spall is the latest addition to the ever-growing cast of Ridley Scott‘s next film “Prometheus” which has been reported to be inspired/linked to the 1979 sci-fi classic “Alien” but isn’t quite a prequel.

The actor — who’ll next be seen in Roland Emmerich‘s “Anonymous” as well as Lone Scherfig‘s “One Day” — will star along side the likes of Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Kate Dickie. While “Monsters” and future “Cogan’s Trade” star Scoot McNairy was also previously linked to a role, it may have been the one Spall has now been cast in.

Details of the project are being kept relatively under wraps though star Fassbender has revealed he’ll play an android in the film which is “a different story [to the ‘Alien’ series’] but it’s also the traditional roots.” Helmer Scott himself added that “‘Alien’ was indeed the jumping off point for this project. Out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place.”

But Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigoye seemingly sings a different tune, arguing that the film is very much a prequel to Scott’s “Alien” with the monster reportedly “being developed right now” and is one that “is so terrifying it’s scaring the designers!” Sounds like mostly speculation and hearsay at this stage and, from the studio’s reaction to past rumors, Scott and company will probably hold their cards close to their chest until closer to the film’s unveiling.

Either way, shooting begins on March 21st at the famous Pinewood Studios with a June 8th, 2012 release already in place. [DailyMail]
