Got a Tip?

‘Ready Or Not 2’: Radio Silence, Kathryn Newton & Samara Weaving To Reunite For Sequel To 2019 Cult Horror Hit

What’s next for the Radio Silence guys after last year’s “Abigail“? Sorry, John Carpenter fans, it’s not their long-gestating “Escape From New York” remake. Instead, Deadline reports that Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett‘s next outing will be a sequel to “Ready Or Not,” with “Abigail” actress Kathryn Newton set to star.

Newton joins the returning Samara Weaving, star of the 2019 original, on the cast sheet, with more casting news to arrive later. “Ready Or Not” stars Weaving as a young bride forced to play a lethal cat-and-mouse game by her rich, eccentric in-laws after her wedding. Original screenwriters Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy return for the sequel with Busick a long-time Radio Silence collaborator, co-writing “Abigail” and the group’s two “Scream” sequels.

The original’s producers are also back for “Ready Or Not 2”: Tripp Vinson, James Vanderbilt, Bradley J. Fischer, and William Sherak. Executive producers on the film include Chad Villella, Tara Farney, Greg Denny, Busick, and Murphy.  Richard Ruiz and Cornelia Burleight cover the project for Fox Searchlight Pictures, reporting to Production and Development co-head DanTram Nguyen and Katie Goodson-Thomas.

“Ready Or Not” was a breakout hit for Radio Silence, scoring high marks with critics and making nearly $58 million at the box office off a $6 million budget. Since then, Radio Silence scored other box office hits with “Scream” and “Scream VI,” with the latter becoming the highest-grossing film in the slasher franchise. “Abigail” was only a modest success last year, however. That film made just under $43 million off a $28 million budget.

But maybe Newton’s presence will give “Ready Or Not 2” a boost. The actress is no stranger to the horror genre. Besides “Abigail,” Newton’s other genre work include last year’s “Lisa Frankenstein,” 2020’s “Freaky,” and 2012’s “Paranormal Activity 4.” Other recent credits also include “Winner,” “Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania,” and “The Map Of Tiny Perfect Things.”

So when should horror fans expect “Ready Or Not 2” in theaters? A Spring 2026 premiere feels likely, similar to the April 2024 and March 2023 releases of “Abigail” and “Scream 6.”
