The embers of the American West glow again in Max Walker-Silverman’s “Rebuilding,” a tender story of loss and renewal starring Josh O’Connor, Meghann Fahy, and Amy Madigan. The filmmaker behind “A Love Song” trades one kind of quiet solitude for another, turning devastation into something almost luminous. The trailer for his latest film arrives tomorrow, ahead of its theatrical release on November 14.

Set in southern Colorado, “Rebuilding” follows Dusty (O’Connor), a divorced father whose ranch is destroyed in a wildfire. Forced to start over in a government-run trailer community, he slowly reconstructs a life from the ashes — rediscovering small comforts, fragile connections, and a glimmer of hope. As he reconnects with his ex-wife, Ruby (Fahy), and their young daughter, Callie-Rose (Lily LaTorre), Dusty’s quiet perseverance becomes the film’s emotional center.
Walker-Silverman, whose lyrical naturalism and deep empathy for rural lives marked his breakout debut, continues his exploration of community and solitude in landscapes scarred yet enduring. Produced by Jesse Hope, Dan Janvey, and Paul Mezey, the film also features Kali Reis, Nancy Morlan, and Zeilyanna Martinez, rounding out a cast that captures the story’s grounded humanity.
Distributed by an as-yet-unannounced studio, “Rebuilding” looks poised to extend Walker-Silverman’s growing reputation for intimate, heart-forward storytelling. Like his earlier work, it’s a meditation on what remains after everything burns away — the quiet grace of survival, the ache of rebuilding, and the small mercies that bind people back together. “Rebuilding” opens November 14.
