The best part of having a million different streaming services and huge studios willing to spend large sums of money to bring original content to subscribers is the fact that platforms like Hulu will create a full season of a show like “Reprisal.” Now, it should be noted that I have yet to see a single episode of the series, but if the trailer is any indication, “Reprisal” could very well be one of the more interesting, stylish TV offerings of the fall.
The trailer for “Reprisal” does a pretty great job of laying out the plot. A woman is upset that she is left for dead by a gang led by her brother. So, what is she to do in this circumstance? Well, she goes back for revenge, naturally. However, simply describing the plot doesn’t do the series justice.

It’s clear that Hulu is going for something unique with “Reprisal.” The synopsis describes the series as a “hyper-noir story” and the footage seen in the trailer justifies that description. The dialogue has that noir vibe, while the characters seem ripped out of classic black and white films of the genre. But there’s something decidedly modern about the series, as well. Needless to say, the trailer piqued the interest of this writer.
The series stars Abigail Spencer (“Rectify“), Rodrigo Santoro (“Westworld”), Mena Massoud (“Aladdin”), Rhys Wakefield (“True Detective”), and Madison Davenport (“From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series”). The series is created and executive produced by Josh Corbin, who previously wrote and directed the film “The Elm Tree” and wrote for the TV series “StartUp.”
“Reprisal” is expected to debut all of its episodes on December 6.
Here’s the synopsis:
She’s coming to collect. Reprisal is a hyper-noir story that follows a relentless femme fatale who, after being left for dead, sets out to take revenge against her brother and his bombastic gang of gearheads.
