'Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story' Trailer: Series Tackles Martin's Death And The Movements It Inspired

It’s hard to believe that the Trayvon Martin killing happened over six years ago. The death of the 17-year-old high school student from Florida made national headlines after the debate raged over the reasons for Martin being shot by George Zimmerman. Now, Paramount Network is releasing their six-part docuseries about the event called “Rest In Power: The Trayvon Martin Story” later this month and we have our first look at the trailer.

As you might expect from a docuseries about the Trayvon Martin incident, the trailer gives a brief overview of the events leading up to that fateful night, but also focuses on the aftermath, which featured the birth of the Black Lives Matter movement and nationwide protests. ‘Rest in Power’ will also feature interviews with those involved, including Martin’s friends and family.

‘Rest in Power’ comes courtesy of Shawn Carter, aka Jay-Z, who is listed as a producer on the project, along with one of Trayvon’s parents, Tracy Martin. The series is directed by Julia Willoughby Nason and Jenner Furst, who are best known for their directing and producing a number of documentaries, including “Welcome to Leith,” which tackles the issue of white supremacy in a small North Dakota town.

Paramount Network is scheduled to release the first episode of ‘Rest in Power’ on July 30.

Here’s the synopsis for the series:
