Lee Daniels Still Bitter About Mo'Nique's "Disrespectful" Comments And Says "She Needs To Shut Up"

It’s been almost a decade since Lee Daniels released the award-winning film “Precious.” And while there were many people involved in that production that were singled out for their hard work, perhaps none were recognized as much as actress Mo’Nique. Looking at all the awards she was nominated for and eventually won, it’s staggering to see all the acclaim the comedian received for her incredibly unfunny and heartbreaking performance. But since that time, the actress has been more known for talking badly about those involved in the film than doing much acting.

Back in 2015, Mo’Nique said that Daniels had “blackballed” her career and, in effect, made it so she couldn’t find quality roles. At the time, Daniels shot back and gave his side of the story. However, even though they say that time heals all wounds, there’s still some bad blood between the director and his award-winning actress.

Speaking to TMZ’s “Raq Rants,” the filmmaker was asked about the situation involving Mo’Nique and her claims that Daniels hurt her career. Needless to say, the director is not having it.

“I fought hard for her to get that job. I wanted her to get that job. And she was paid her money. She was paid the money for the budget that we had. And for her to badmouth myself and [producers] Tyler [Perry] and Oprah is disrespectful and it’s wrong. She’s out of pocket. She’s really wrong,” said Daniels.

He continued, “I respect her actor because she gave me her soul, but I gave her my soul. And for that, she was given the Golden Globe and the Academy Award. And it breaks my heart that she feels that we blackballed her. No one blackballed her. Mo’Nique blackballed her.”

When asked about her motive for calling out Daniels and blaming her misfortune on the director, he said, “I don’t understand her motive. I don’t get it. I really don’t.”

Ultimately, he concludes by saying, “She needs to shut up.”

Ouch.

He continues to say that he’s always happy to bring his actors along to future projects, and even named “Precious” star Gabourey Sidibe as someone he continues to find roles for. However, it’s clear that Mo’Nique isn’t one of the actors on his speed-dial.
