We are still more than a month away from the release of “Gladiator II,” but that isn’t stopping filmmaker Ridley Scott from teasing what’s to come in the future. Namely, he’s already started working on a third film in the franchise.
Speaking to TotalFilm, Ridley Scott teased the progress he’s already made on a possible “Gladiator 3.” While he was a bit short on details, he did shed some light on what’s to come.
“I’ve already got eight pages,” said the filmmaker. “I’ve got the beginning of a very good footprint.”
As for what the threequel might look like, Scot added, “If there’s a Gladiator 3, I don’t think you’d ever go back into the arena. But I had to go back into the arena…”
Obviously, it’s not certain that a third “Gladiator” film will ever come to fruition. We’re still awaiting the second one. And we know we can’t count our gladiatorial chickens before they hatch.
That said, there is a lot of positive buzz surrounding the second film. You have the requisite hype from Scott, but also reports of test screenings that went very well. So, if the reviews and box office are good, there’s a real possibility the studio would quickly want to get a third “Gladiator” movie off the ground.
“Gladiator II” is expected to arrive in theaters on November 22.
