With each passing day, it looks like Ridley Scott‘s "Prometheus" sequel, "Alien: Paradise Lost" — part of a series that isn’t supposed to connect to "Alien" until the third or fourth movie, according to the filmmaker — will be linking pretty directly to his iconic sci-fi horror film. First, there’s that new title, which put the name of the franchise right up front, and now, Scott has made another curious revelation.
Empire is the latest outlet to chat with Scott on his current press rounds for "The Martian," and the director revealed ‘Paradise Lost’ will make a pretty major nod to the "Alien" series hero, Sigourney Weaver‘s Ellen Ripley. “In a way it is ‘Prometheus 2.’ It’s exactly the same story," he told the magazine about the title swap. "But it was always in the works to be called that [‘Alien: Paradise Lost’]. Is ‘Prometheus’ actually taking us off course from where I’m going, which is actually backing into the first ‘Alien’… I’ve even got connections with Ripley [in this], but I’m not telling you what.”

And if you’re thinking this is another way for Scott to perhaps pour some cold water on Neill Blomkamp‘s brewing ‘Alien’ film — which is slated to include Ripley — guess again. Scott says it’s still very much happening — after ‘Paradise Lost’. “I’m producing it,” he said. “The design is for it to go out next, after this. This will go out first. It’s more associated with Ripley, it’s a completely different angle, it’s more of a sequel. I’m coming in from the back end.”
Scott again states his movie will explore the question of "why this thing [the xenomorph] would be made, by whom, and for what purpose?" and he’s got a "big idea" about how Michael Fassbender‘s character will return.
Lastly, if you think the 77-year-old director is getting too far up there to helm any further sequels after ‘Paradise Lost,’ he says he’s on board. "Definitely. Last time I should have done it," he told Den Of Geek.
