Rose Tico Was Mostly Removed From ‘Rise Of Skywalker’ But Kelly Marie Tran Suggests Rose And Rey Had Scenes Together

Among the many, many things that definitely should have been in “Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker” one of the biggest omissions is the character of Rose Tico, played by Kelly Marie Tran. After her character became the point of contention for some toxic fans, Tran was driven off social media, and in the new movie, her character was mostly removed from the latest film in the saga.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly back in November before the first cast screening of the film, Kelly Marie Tran expresses her excitement over her character’s story in the film and suggests she had scenes with Daisy Ridley’s Rey: “I think it’s really cool at all that they are even in scenes together because in ‘Jedi’ we weren’t in any scenes together,” Tran said. “It was really cool to have feminine energy on set. I wish I could tell you more but I’m really excited for people to see [Rose and Rey] interact. They both have the some objective which is to fight for the things you believe in and the people you love.”

Rose Tico that was introduced in “The Last Jedi” as the personification of the hope and good that the Resistance represented, and the damage and suffering that the First Order inflicts on the common people across the galaxy. In “Rise of Skywalker” we barely see Tico, she refuses to go along with our main characters, and most of the lines of dialogue from the Resistance base that could have gone to her were instead given to other characters.

Of course, the final cut of the film contains no scenes between Rose and Rey at all. The still image of the film with Rose and Rey seemingly in conversation is nowhere to be found. For a movie as stuffed with plot and characters as “Rise of Skywalker,” you’d think they could keep at least one scene between the two characters, given how much Rose idolized the Resistance and people like Finn, but maybe the Disney overlords were too focused preventing Oscar Isaac from giving us the Poe/Finn relationship he so clearly wanted that they forgot to put the Rose/Rey scene in the movie.
