‘Road House’: Billy Magnussen, Daniela Melchior & More Join Jake Gyllenhaal In Doug Liman’s Amazon Remake

Back in November, it was revealed that Doug Liman and Jake Gyllenhaal were hoping to team up to bring a remake of “Road House” to the world. While it’s been more than half a year since that report, we’re pleased to find out that the project is, in fact, moving forward with Amazon signing on to bring it to life.

According to Amazon, the studio has given the green light to bring a new “Road House” to the world. As previously reported, Doug Liman is set to direct the new film with Jake Gyllenhaal signed on to star and produce. However, we also know the rest of the main cast of the film, as well as a synopsis.

For those unaware, the original “Road House” is an ‘80s classic starring Patrick Swayze as a premier bouncer brought in to settle down a rowdy honky tonk club and take on the corrupt businessman behind the scenes. The film is iconic due to Swayze’s performance, as well as some of the more over-the-top, R-rated violence that is prevalent in the film. The remake is a bit different with Gyllenhaal expected to play a former UFC fighter who takes on the role of a bouncer at a wild, out-of-control bar in the Florida Keys. As in the original, the new bouncer will find out that not everything is what it seems.

“‘Road House’ is a homerun for us. Not only is it a nod to fans of the original, but it is also a big, fun, broad audience movie,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. “We are thrilled to collaborate with Joel, Doug, and this great cast led by Jake Gyllenhaal, and for them to come together to reimagine the classic MGM film as an action-packed adventure for our global audience.”

“I’m thrilled to put my own spin on the beloved ‘Road House’ legacy.  And I can’t wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role,” said director Doug Liman.

“The original ‘Road House’ has a special place in my heart and I am so excited to bring this newly imagined version to audiences around the world. Doug and I have each made some big, boisterous action movies and are ready to bring everything we have to this one,” said producer Joel Silver.

Joining Gyllenhaal in the cast are Billy Magnussen (“No Time to Die”), Daniela Melchior (“The Suicide Squad”), Gbemisola Ikumelo (“A League of Their Own”), Lukas Gage (“The White Lotus”), Hannah Love Lanier (“A Black Lady Sketch Show”), Travis Van Winkle (“You”), B.K. Cannon (“Why Women Kill”), Arturo Castro (“Broad City”), Dominique Columbus (“Ray Donovan”), Beau Knapp (“Seven Seconds”), and Bob Menery.

An exact release date for “Road House” is yet to be determined, but the Amazon film is expected to begin production later this month.
