‘Roads To Freedom’: Ridley Scott & ‘Peaky Blinders’ Creator Team For 10-Episode WWII Series Featuring Multiple International Perspectives

Following their collaboration on the Tom Hardy series “Taboo” and the upcoming “Great Expectations,” Ridley Scott and Steven Knight are going to reunite again. Deadline reports the pair are developing a 10-episode series, titled “Roads To Freedom,” but haven’t secured a financier or broadcaster as there are international suitors.

The WWII series will be based on the books by Sir Anthony Beevor and will be taking various international perspectives from the United Kingdom, United States, Russia, Germany, and France. The struggle of civilians in the warzones and events leading up to the Cold War. Steven Knight and Beevor will write the episodes with Scott directing the first episode.

Ridley Scott is coming off the massive success of the HBO Max original sci-fi series “Raised By Wolves” and is teaming up with “Fargo“s Noah Hawley for an Earthbound series set within the “Alien” franchise. Not to mention previous shows such as “The Terror,” “The Man In The High Castle,” and “The Good Wife.” He’s wrapped the period flick “The Last Duel,” and is currently shooting the Lady Gaga crime drama “House of Gucci,” both film are due out later this year by two different studios. Scott will follow-up with his epic Napoleon film “Kitbag” for Apple.

Knight isn’t a stranger to television either with the hit British gangster series “Peaky Blinders” under his belt, the Apple TV+ show “See” starring Jason Momoa, and the previously mentioned “Taboo.” His feature film work includes “Eastern Promises,” “Allied,” and Doug Liman‘s recent effort “Locked Down.”

It will be interesting to see what kind of cast they end up assembling for “Roads To Freedom.”
