Zack Synder Dreamed About Adding Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern In 'Justice League' But It Didn't Come Together

This Thursday will mark the release of the Snydercut, “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” on HBO Max, and it sounds like there is some truth to the rumors of a former DC actor showing up in his 4-hour movie.

While there was plenty of speculation that had Ryan Reynolds showing-up in Zack Snyder‘s new “Justice League,” as Hal Jordan aka Green Lantern, Snyder himself has revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that while he had been mulling over the idea, it just wasn’t meant to be. Adding that he even wanted to use the Lantern Corps, which likely might have been too much for the visual effects budget to handle for obvious reasons.

“There was another idea I had for the Green Lantern that wasn’t Ryan, and so I thought that if we had gone down this path of Green Lantern, I would have had to have Ryan as the additional Lantern,” Zack Snyder told THR. He continued, “filling out the Lantern Corps a little bit more than say just one Green Lantern.”

Ryan has often joked about “Green Lantern,” even poking fun at the character in his other superhero films “Deadpool” and “Deadpool 2,” the latter breaking the fourth wall as he travels back in time to shoot himself as he’s reading the script.

He’s spending St. Patrick’s Day (today) watching “Green Lantern” for the first time and is live-tweeting it for his followers.

While a new “Green Lantern” movie had been in development stages, it’s now getting an HBO Max series featuring characters such as Guy Gardner, Jessica Cruz, Simon Baz, Alan Scott, Sinestro, and Kilowog. The HBO Max series will be written by Seth Grahame-Smith and Marc Guggenheim, with Seth taking the role of showrunner.
