Robert De Niro Joins John Malkovich & Machine Gun Kelly In New Thriller 'Wash Me In The River'

Even though Robert De Niro is 77 years old, it doesn’t appear that the legendary actor is slowing down anytime soon. Of course, last year, he starred in the Martin Scorsese epic, “The Irishman” as well as “Joker.” But even in a COVID-19 world, where the film industry shut down, De Niro is prepping the release of “The War with Grandpa” and “The Comeback Trail.” Oh and let’s not forget, he’s about to begin production on Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” and Ridley Scott’sGucci.” Needless to say, De Niro is possibly busier now than ever before. And that doesn’t even take into consideration his latest project, “Wash Me in the River.”

According to Deadline, De Niro has signed on to star opposite Colson “Machine Gun Kelly” Baker and John Malkovich in the upcoming thriller, “Wash Me in the River.” The film, directed by Randall Emmett, stars Baker as a recovering opioid addict that vows revenge on the dealers that sold the drugs in his town, which also resulted in the death of his fiancé.

“I couldn’t be more excited to work with Bob again after many collaborations, including ‘The Irishman’ as a producer,” said Emmett. “I’m so grateful that he is supporting me as a filmmaker now. Colson was always my first choice to play the lead in the movie and John has been an icon of mine since childhood. Having them both attached with Bob is a dream come true.”

“Wash Me in the River” is expected to begin production in November. But before Emmett can start filming his latest thriller, he has to finish up his debut feature, “Midnight in the Switchgrass,” which saw its production halted due to the industry shutdown in March. Filming has now restarted and is hoping to finish up shortly.

If production begins in November, as anticipated, it would appear that we could have a new De Niro film coming in the second half of 2021. We’ll just have to wait and see.
