Bradley Cooper Slightly Less Optimistic About Secret M. Night Shyamalan Project, “It’s Hard To Get a Movie Made”
Some New York Playlist members were lucky enough to attend the “Limitless” press junket this weekend and were able to be in the presence of the great Robert DeNiro who plays Carl Van Loon in the film, an intimidating Wall Street business magnate modeled after business tycoon George Soros.
Before we get into that smart-drug-based thriller directed by Neil Burger, which hits theaters next weekend, let’s talk De Niro. Of course someone had to ask him about the possibility of working with Martin Scorsese again. And of course, De Niro is set to appear in another mobster film called, “The Irishman.”
“Yeah, I’m planning on it, absolutely,” the iconic actor said about working with his directorial muse again. “Well, this time I’ll say it, I’ve said it before, its a movie based on a book called, ‘I Heard You Paint Houses,’ its about a guy who says, and I believe [the author of] the book — he’s passed away now — but he confessed that he killed [Jimmy] Hoffa and also Joe Gallo. And so I’m gonna play that character. Joe Pesci is gonna be in it, Al Pacino is gonna be in it and Marty’s going to direct it.”
Will it happen for sure a journo asked? “I’m hoping it happens. We’re really working towards making it happen,” he said. “As much as ‘for sure’ as everything in the movie business is,” Burger interjected and cautioned.
“Yeah, I mean I’d never say it if I never fully [meant it, if we weren’t] committed and stuff,” De Niro said. While many have deduced that this means “The Irishman” comes next for Scorsese after his foray into 3D children’s movies, “Hugo Cabret,” Scorsese’s publicist told us last month that he’s fully committed to “Silence” next, which will hopefully still retain the same cast once announced of Daniel Day-Lewis, Benicio del Toro and Gael Garcia Bernal.
As for the reported re-collaboration between “Limitless” star Bradley Cooper and DeNiro in Jonathan Demme‘s “Honeymoon For Harry” — which is currently being rewritten by “Rachel Getting Married” scribe, Jenny Lumet — all Cooper could say was, “We’d like to do that, but we haven’t made it yet.”
As for the secretive M. Night Shyamalan project he’s been reportedly circling Cooper was slightly less optimistic saying, “We’re talking about it, but it’s hard to get a movie made” — a theme that seemed to echo throughout the weekend.
“Limitless” hits theaters next weekend March 18 in wide release. More from the director and the cast closer to the release.
