Robert Downey Jr. To Produce New Comic Book Adaptation For Hulu Titled 'Sweet Tooth'

Many assume that Robert Downey, Jr’s superhero days are soon to be over, once the “Iron Man” and “Avengers” star turns in his latest MCU film “Avengers 4” next spring. However, it appears that even if RDJ leaves the MCU, he has at least one more comic book property he’d like to take a stab at.

According to Deadline, Hulu has agreed to give a pilot order for a series adaptation of the comic book “Sweet Tooth.” And as alluded to earlier, RDJ and his wife Susan Downey are aboard to produce, via their Team Downey production company. “Sweet Tooth,” created by Jeff Lemire, follows a young boy named Gus, a human boy/deer hybrid, in a coming-of-age fable. The series begins with the young Gus leaving his home to find a cataclysmic event has ravaged the world.

“Sweet Tooth” will be spearheaded by “Hap and Leonard” co-creator Jim Mickle. In addition to this project and “Hap and Leonard,” Mickle is probably best known for his work on films “Cold in July” and “We Are What We Are.”

Even with a pilot order, there’s no guarantee that “Sweet Tooth” will be picked up for a full season run. However, the comic book series is critically-acclaimed and if RDJ is attached, it would be silly for Hulu to pass up the opportunity to promote this new series to its fullest.

Team Downey has more upcoming series in the works, other than “Sweet Tooth.” RDJ and his wife are working on a new drama for TNT titled “Constance,” starring Elisabeth Shue. They also are working on the long-in-development series reboot of the classic “Perry Mason” over at HBO.
