Robert Pattinson Movie With Ciro Guerra Adds Mark Rylance

Robert Pattinson‘s post-“Twilight” pivot to the world of making movies with bonafide auteurs isn’t new. In fact, his upcoming slate of movies includes projects with the Zellner Brothers, Olivier Assayas, Antonio Campos, Ciro Guerra, and Claire Denis. However, there’s one simple reason why the actor pursues these projects, that offer lots of creative fulfillment, but not always a big paycheck to go with it.

“I really like the hunt,” he told IndieWire. “I like finding directors who haven’t been fully realized by the wider world yet.” Well, he’s certainly done, and you need to look no further than the outstanding “Good Time,” which has pulled filmmakers Josh and Benny Safdie out of the underground, into getting offers for superhero movie gigs.

And Pattinson, being a cinephile (“half the movies I like aren’t even released in this country”), is passionate about finding those filmmakers that are doing bold, visionary work. Hence, he’s got a project cooking with “Embrace Of The Serpent” director Ciro Guerra. Details are still very scarce on the ground, but we know now who else is in the movie, and there’s even a title.

“I saw ‘Embrace the Serpent’ that last day it played at the Sunshine in New York and the matinee was packed. I just knew Ciro Guerra’s next film was going to be amazing. I’m going to do ‘Waiting for the Barbarians’ with Mark Rylance,” he teased.

Pattinson? Guerra? Rylance? Yeah, we’ll just buy our tickets for that right now.

So, lots on the horizon for Pattinson, who looks to be in no rush to returning to his status of blockbuster heartthrob star anytime soon.
