Denis Villenuve Interested In Directing 'Star Wars' Movie

Even if you weren’t totally on board with the end result of “Blade Runner 2049,” you have to admire Denis Villeneuve for taking on a sacred sci-fi property, and treating it with care. It could’ve gone sideways is so many different ways, but the filmmaker delivered, and no matter the box office results, the “Blade Runner” brand is fine. So as the director embarks on tackling another totem in the sci-fi world with “Dune,” Frank Herbert fans can breathe a little easy that the spice is in steady hands. However, could Villeneuve be prompted to go to a galaxy far, far away?

Happy Sad Confused asked that very question to the filmmaker, and it turns out the director would be curious to tackle a movie that takes place outside the main “Star Wars” saga.

“It’s something that, again it’s like, I would be intrigued,” Villeneuve said. “I don’t know, it’s very difficult. What is dangerous with ‘Star Wars‘ right now is its become its own vocabulary. I would love to see them — I think ‘Rogue One‘ was a very interesting attempt to get out of the mold.”

“I think it would be a great idea to get out of there and to go on a new part of the galaxy, that I would be open to,” he added.

Well, we already know that Lucasfilm and Disney are ready to roll the dice, entrusting Rian Johnson with a brand new “Star Wars” trilogy. It seems the horizon is opening up for someone like Villeneuve to come and leave their mark on one of the most iconic blockbuster franchises of all time. And frankly, we’d love to see what his spin on the epic battle between The Force and the Dark Side would be. [via ComicBook]
