With the advancement of artificial intelligence and just how quickly technology progresses, it feels like we’re getting dangerously close to seeing the first real sci-fi robot. Not like some mindless machine that does preprogrammed tasks, but the type of robot that we saw in sci-fi films with thoughts of its own. Once we get there, who knows, maybe our dating lives will be similar to that of the film “Robots.”
As seen in the trailer for “Robots,” the film follows the story of the not-too-distant future where robots are a commonplace part of society. Typically, they’re used for menial labor, but there are instances of people using robot versions of themselves to “double.” Well, in the film, we see what happens when two humans use robot doubles of themselves to date each other. As you might have guessed, the robots decide to cut out their human counterparts and just live a life on their own, together. Hilarity ensues.
“Robots” stars Shailene Woodley and Jack Whitehall as the human (and robot) leads. The film comes from co-writers and co-directors, Casper Christensen and Anthony Hines. Christensen is the writer of the hilarious film, “Klown.” Hines is a writer who has worked on a variety of Sacha Baron Cohen films, such as “Borat,” “Bruno,” and “The Dictator.” Clearly, these are two guys with proven comedy chops.
“Robots” is set to arrive in select theaters and VOD on May 19. You can watch the new trailer below.
