Got a Tip?

Ryan Gosling May Star In Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars’ Movie Which Is About To Go Into Hyper-Drive

The world of “Star Wars” live-action is a bit of a mess. There’s many a series that just isn’t connecting with audiences—“Skeleton Crew” recently received ratings worse than the now-canceled “Acolyte,” so it’s not long for this world either—and there hasn’t been a movie on screen since 2019. But new films are in the works, and one, by director Shawn Levy, seems poised to fly off into space if the intended lead, Ryan Gosling, signs on the dotted line.

Yep, THR reports that the Gosling, “The Fall Guy” star is in talks to lead Levy’s upcoming “Star Wars” movie. Levy’s film was just one of several “Star Wars” films in development and seemingly years away—there were three films announced that were in the queue before it. But given they’re already at the casting stage with Gosling, a script must be ready, and it might jump the line to be the next “Star Wars” film in production after “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” which opens in theaters May 2026.

Details are non-existent, as usual, but Jonathan Tropper, who collaborated with Levy on films such as “This is Where I Leave You” and “The Adam Project,” is writing the script and has apparently spent an entire year working on it.

What is known about it is that it’s meant to be a stand-alone movie, and it will apparently be totally divorced from the Skywalker Saga (and thank god for that, given how everything still seems to be connected).

All of this is apparently sudden. THR also reveals that Levy was considering directing a boy band movie that would reunite him with his “Deadpool & Wolverine” stars, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, but Gosling’s interest in the lead role has suddenly powered the hyper-drive on its momentum and urgency.

If a deal is made, this untitled “Star Wars” movie will be Levy’s next film and it’ll be the next Lucasfilm picture to go into production since the aforementioned ‘Mando & Grogu’ drama, potentially with cameras even set to roll in the fall—momentum and excitement is everything in Hollywood.

Fingers crossed because “Star Wars” needs a savior and maybe Gosling will be it.
