‘Saturation Point’: Michael Bay & Cynthia Erivo Team For Sci-Fi Climate Thriller For Universal Pictures

This week sees audiences getting ready to watch Universal Pictures‘ “Jurassic World Rebirth” as the seventh “Jurassic” flick heads to theaters. There is now word that the studio is looking to turn the climate thriller novel “Saturation Point” into a feature with director Michael Bay and actress Cynthia Erivo attaching themselves as producers.

Revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, it’ll be based on the 2024 Adrian Tchaikovsky novel with screenwriter Minnie Schedeen tapped to write the script, and it sounds like it could be a bit similar to Alex Garland‘s sci-fi thriller “Annihilation.”

A story that focuses on a group of scientists and soldiers, led by Dr. Jasmine Marks, that enter a zone on Earth that is super hot and humid to the point it makes it extremely difficult for humans to survive. They discover on a rescue mission that the zone is much more deadly than they thought. As their corporate bosses aren’t telling them the whole story, as not all forms of intelligent life in that zone are human.

The main producing team includes Bay and longtime Platinum Dunes partner Brad Fuller (through their first-look deal with Universal) and exec producer Alex Ginno alongside Erivo and Solome Williams for the banner Edith’s Daughter.

Of course, Ervio’s expanding partnership with Universal isn’t all that surprising after leading their super-successful film adaptation of the “Wizard of Oz” stage play “Wicked” and the second installment “Wicked: For Good.”

Bay is reportedly gearing up for a potential return to the “Transformers” franchise at Paramount. Some other would-be directorial projects for Bay in the past included video game adaptations like “Ghost Recon” and, more recently is working alongside rising star Sydney Sweeney on an “OutRun” film project.

While the report doesn’t say that Bay will direct or Erivo will star, that could change in time.
