Set Sail For Adventure With The First Trailer For Disney's 'Moana'

Disney already has a $1 billion animated hit this year with “Zootopia.” Frankly, they could take a movie or two off their calendar and still do better than some of their rivals around town. But the mouse house isn’t stopping for one moment, and they’ve got another offering coming up this holiday season. And given the bad buzz at the moment around “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” perhaps they could use something that could be a no-brainer hit.

Their animation arm will be delivering “Moana” this fall, featuring none other than Dwayne Johnson voicing the lead role. Directed by Ron Clements and John Musker (who both worked on “Aladdin” and “The Princess And The Frog“), and co-written by Taika Waititi, this is an adventure tale about a young woman and a demi-god who set sail on the high seas. Here’s the official synopsis:

Three thousand years ago, the greatest sailors in the world voyaged across the vast South Pacific, discovering the many islands of Oceania. But then, for a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one today knows why. From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes “Moana,” a sweeping, CG-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and fulfill her ancestors’ unfinished quest. During her journey, Moana (voice of Auli’i Cravalho) meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous fiery creatures and impossible odds.

“Moana” opens on November 23rd.
