Got a Tip?

Seth Gordon The Latest Director To Exit Sony’s ‘Uncharted’

null"Uncharted" continues to be Sony‘s white whale. David O. Russell and Neil Burger have already come and gone on the long brewing adaptation of the hit video game. But things seemed to start coming together last year, with Seth Gordon ("Identity Thief," "Horrible Bosses") signing up to direct and a summer 2016 release date slated. However, Sony is not going to make that target.

Gordon has exited the movie once again putting the entire project back at square one. Sony’s new head Tom Rothman apparently wanted to change creative direction, rather than cut the budget for the flick, but that still sounds euphemism for getting this thing made more cheaply. And one does have to wonder how much money has been burned into development costs so far.

The plan is still to find a big A-list star to lead what the everyone is hoping will be an "Indiana Jones"-style franchise. Before you suggest him, Chris Pratt has passed on the movie already, but a script from Mark Boal ("Zero Dark Thirty") should still likely attract a decent name. [Heroic Hollywood/The Wrap]

8/5/15 Update: the film has been bumped to 2017.
