Shawn Levy's 'Star Wars' Film Finally Has A Writer Attached

Way back in November 2022, it was reported that Shawn Levy would be directing a “Star Wars” film. Since then, however, we haven’t heard anything about the project. Well, that’s finally changed, as we know who will be writing the film.

According to Deadline, Shawn Levy’s untitled “Star Wars” film will be written by Jonathan Tropper. The writer has a fairly long history with Levy, having written the Netflix film, “The Adam Project,” as well as the filmmaker’s “This is Where I Leave You.” Trooper is also the man who created the criminally underseen TV series, “Banshee,” as well as “Warrior.”

It’s no surprise that things have taken so long for this “Star Wars” film. Levy has been incredibly busy with this year’s “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which is shaping up to be the biggest film of his career. He’s also one of the producers and directors working on the final season of “Stranger Things,” which is basically a TV show consisting of feature-length episodes.

It’s also unclear when we might see this “Star Wars” film arrive in theaters. We already know Lucasfilm is prepping for “The Mandalorian & Grogu” to be the next film in May 2026. There are also “Star Wars” films planned for December 2026 and December 2027. Though, when we are talking about film projects that far out, it’s always smart to take the dates with a grain of salt.

For Levy, it really doesn’t seem like he’s going to have much time to work on a “Star Wars” film until 2025, at the earliest. Most likely, he won’t begin production on anything until 2026. Oh yeah, and then there’s also reports that he might direct an ‘Avengers’ film, which would throw all of this for a loop.

Needless to say, we’ll have to wait and see what’s going on.
