‘Skeletons’: JT Mollner & J.J. Abrams-Produced Creature Feature Led By Brie Larson Releasing June 2027 By Sony

Today, we’ve learned when audiences can expect to see the new JT Mollner (“Strange Darling”) movie, “Skeletons,” backed by producer J.J. Abrams via his well-established production banner Bad Robot. Sony Pictures, the movie’s distributor, has given the creature feature film led by Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson (“Avengers: Endgame,” “Kong: Skull Island”) a box office-friendly release date of June 4, 2027.

Other cast members featured in the pic will be Kyle Gallner, Daithí Ó hAragáin, John Goodman, Willa Fitzgerald, Ione Skye, and Keith Carradine. Gallner and Fitzgerald previously worked with Mollner on “Strange Darling.”

The brief official logline for the pic provided to us by the studio:

A modern take on the creature horror film told from the perspective of a young boy who slowly begins to discover that his beloved parents are hiding a disturbing secret about his mother’s true nature.

We’re hopeful that we’ll get some first-look images or footage before CinemaCon next April in Las Vegas, but “Skeletons” is certainly one of these high-concept horror/genre films to keep an eye on, with the original draft penned by on-the-rise Brian Duffield (“Whalefall,” “Siren Head”), based on the short story by Phillip Fracassi, with revisions by Mollner.

One of the more interesting horror flicks coming from Sony in the coming months is Zach Cregger‘s reboot of “Resident Evil” starring Austin Abrams (“Weapons”), which looks to be another thrilling crowd-pleaser as the genre has done extremely well in 2026 with original flicks like “Backrooms” and “Obsession” making huge waves despite their moderate budgets competing with bigger event releases.
