All three actresses will be legendary “SNL” original cast members in Reitman’s film, with Hunt as Gilda Radner, Fairn as Laraine Newman, and Matula as Jane Curtin. As noted in the lede, “SNL 1975” tells the true story of the night leading up to the NBC premiere of “Saturday Night Live,” based on exclusive interviews with cast, writers, and crew members. Reitman pens the film’s script with Gil Kenan.
“SNL 1975” is another big project for Hunt, who also stars in the first part of Kevin Coster‘s Western “Horizon: An American Saga” later this year. Previous roles for the actress include the Apple TV+ series “Dickinson,” the Netflix adaptation of “Lady Chatterly’s Lover,” and the Amazon Studios drama “Master.”
As for Fairn, her recent work includes the BBC One drama “The Responder” with Martin Freeman. She’ll star soon in the historical drama series “Mary And George” with Julianne Moore, set to premiere on Starz stateside. And Fairn also stars in Jack Thorne‘s Netflix drama “Joy,” about the world’s first “test-tube” baby. Billy Nighy, Thomasin McKenzie, and James Norton also star in that one.
Matula’s recent work includes the MGM/WWE movie “Fighting With My Family” with Florence Pugh, Vince Vaughn, Nick Frost, and Dwayne Johnson. Other credits include the Fox comedy “LA To Vegas,” as well as the independent comedy Tappawingo. She’s also had recent turns in TV fare like “True Lies,” “The Sex Lives Of College Girls,” and “The Resident.”
Expect more casting news on “SNL 1975” in the coming weeks, a movie that’s easily the buzziest one heading into production soon. And think: just in time for the fiftieth anniversary of “SNL” next season.
