'Snowfall' Teaser: Money (And Drugs) Is The Source Of Many Problems In Season 2 Of The FX Drama

FX’s summer drama “Snowfall” has released a trailer in anticipation for its second season, which premieres July 19th. The trailer showcases young series protagonist Franklin Saint (Dawson Idris), as he continues to work his way up the drug dealing hierarchy. Here’s the synopsis for season 2:

“Snowfall continues its story about the infancy of the crack cocaine epidemic and its ultimate radical impact on the culture as we know it. Season 2 follows the ensemble of characters as they intersect and overlap within the mosaic of Los Angeles as we enter 1984, all of them working toward their ultimate goals of money, power and influence.”

The FX show, co-created by filmmaker John Singleton, Eric Amadio, and David Andron, premiered last summer to generally positive reviews and good ratings, prompting FX to renew it before the first 10 episode season even ended.

Following the exploits of Saint, as well as wrestler Gustavo “El Oso” Zapata (Sergio Peris-Mencheta) and CIA operative Teddy McDonald (Carter Hudson), the show showcased how the rise of crack cocaine affected people in Los Angeles in the early 1980s. The first season took place in 1983, while the second will be tackling 1984, highlighting how Los Angeles culture was radically changed with the introduction of the drug.

While perhaps not as critically lauded as some of FX’s other series, “Snowfall” was a big performer last summer, averaging 5 million viewers per episode across all platforms. The show has become something of a comeback for co-creator Singleton, who was a prominent filmmaker early in his career with such films as “Boyz in the Hood” and “Rosewood”, before falling into critical obscurity directing the Taylor Lautner-starring “Abduction,” among other forgettable features in the past few years.

“Snowfall” season 2 premieres on FX on July 19.
