Got a Tip?

Sony Feeling The ‘Fury,’ Picks Up Brad Pitt WWII Movie For Fall 2014 Release

Brad Pitt

It was only last week that Brad Pitt was confirmed to lead David Ayer’s WWII tank movie “Fury,” but it looks like the A-list star was all the distributors needed to pick up the movie because it now has a home and a release date all set.

Sony Pictures will be releasing the QED International-produced film, Ayer’s first non-crime or police related movie since he co-wrote the well-regarded “U-571.” The set-up for the film is pretty simple; Pitt plays “a battle-hardened sergeant named Wardaddy” (subtle!) who leads the five-man crew of the tank Fury as they lock in battle against a desperate German army in the waning days of the war.

With distribution locked in place it looks like you will get to see Pitt in hardened sergeant mode next fall, November 14th to be precise. Things will need to proceed swiftly if the planned fall shoot is to go ahead with the in perennially in-demand actor, but a hefty subject matter and an A-list star put this one squarely in the frame for awards season as well. There’s a long way to go before that though. Ayer will also lock the Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring thriller, “Ten,” which is slated for a January 24th release date. [THR]
