'Soul' Trailer: Pixar Wants Everyone To Know Their Animated Hit Is Moving To Disney+

In the age of Covid-19, release dates, might be fluid, but release dates and trailers essentially have symbiotic relationships. New date? A new trailer, especially when that date is fixed and no longer beholden to the vagaries of Covid-19 susceptible theaters. Now that Disney’s Pixar movie “Soul” is no longer a theatrical release, it now premieres on Disney+ beginning Dec. 25, 2020—Disney has released a new trailer for the film update all the parents who will surely be letting their kids be aware.

Reviews for “Soul” are pretty much off the charts. The movie is 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, and most of those reviews are raves. Take our recent review from Jack King that describes “Soul” as a “mesmerizing return to form for Pixar; a veritable smorgasbord for the senses, vividly recapturing the joys hidden in life’s most banal moments.”

“Soul” introduces Joe Gardner, a middle-school band teacher with a serious passion for jazz music voiced by Jamie Foxx. For Foxx, his enthusiasm for the role and his passion for jazz is the real deal. “When you’re a jazz artist, man, you talk a little different: ‘Hey, cat!’  I got a chance to go to a few jazz fests and meet Herbie Hancock, Chick Correa—hang out with those guys,” he said in a statement. “They have a way of talking, a way of dressing—everything funnels toward their music, toward the jazz.”

“Soul” is directed by Academy Award winner Pete Docter, known for celebrated Pixar works like “Inside Out,” and “Up,” and co-directed by Kemp Powers (“One Night in Miami.” The animated film also features the voice talents of Tina Fey, Phylicia Rashad, Ahmir Questlove Thompson, Angela Bassett, and Daveed Diggs. The movie features original jazz music by globally renowned musician Jon Batiste and a score composed by Oscar winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (“The Social Network”).

What is it that makes you…YOU? Pixar Animation Studios’ “Soul” introduces Joe Gardner (voice of Jamie Foxx) – a middle-school band teacher who gets the chance of a lifetime to play at the best jazz club in town. But one small misstep takes him from the streets of New York City to The Great Before – a fantastical place where new souls get their personalities, quirks, and interests before they go to Earth. Determined to return to his life, Joe teams up with a precocious soul, 22 (voice of Tina Fey), who has never understood the appeal of the human experience. As Joe desperately tries to show 22 what’s great about living, he may discover the answers to some of life’s most important questions. “Soul” is Directed by Academy Award® winner Pete Docter (“Inside Out,” “Up”), co-directed by Kemp Powers (“One Night in Miami”), and produced by Academy Award nominee Dana Murray, p.g.a. (Pixar short “Lou”).
