‘Spartacus: House of Ashur’ Red-Band Trailer: STARZ Revives The Gladiator Epic With A Blood-Soaked New Chapter Premiering December 5

The arena opens once again. STARZ has unveiled the first trailer and key art for “Spartacus: House of Ashur,” a new, outrageous chapter in its cult-favorite gladiator saga. The series will debut with a two-episode premiere on Friday, December 5, followed by new episodes streaming weekly on Fridays via the STARZ app and all STARZ on-demand platforms.

This reimagined story throws viewers back into the blood, lust, and treachery of Ancient Rome—only this time, the tables have turned. The series resurrects the cunning survivor Ashur, played by Nick E. Tarabay (“Spartacus,” “The Expanse”), who now rules as Dominus of his own House. Once branded a traitor, Ashur rises from the ashes of betrayal and bloodshed to seize power, establishing the House of Ashur in a brutal new arena defined by violence, desire, and deceit.

The trailer teases an expanded roster of fierce new characters in Ashur’s world, including his battle-hardened gladiator trainer Korris (played by Graham McTavish, “The Witcher,” “House of the Dragon”), the relentless gladiatrix Achillia (Tenika Davis, “Jupiter’s Legacy,” “Cabinet of Curiosities”), and the ambitious schemer Tarchon (Jordi Webber, “Choose Love,” “Prosper”). The Roman stage grows even larger with Jackson Gallagher as Julius Caesar and Jaime Slater as Cornelia, his calculating wife—each vying for power in a society where blood and lust are the ultimate weapons.

“Spartacus: House of Ashur” builds on everything that made the original series a cultural phenomenon. What if Ashur had lived—and the Romans rewarded his betrayal with the very gladiator school where he once suffered? Now, the former slave owns the ludus that once owned him. But as the series’ logline suggests, “ruling a band of merciless gladiators is child’s play compared to surviving the savage world of Roman politics.” In this world, betrayal isn’t sin—it’s currency.

The trailer also introduces Jamaica Vaughan (“Home and Away”), Ivana Baquero (“Pan’s Labyrinth,” “The Shannara Chronicles”), Claudia Black (“The Nevers,” “Ahsoka”), India Shaw-Smith (“Supernatural”), and Leigh Gill (“Joker,” “Game of Thrones”) as key players in Ashur’s brutal ascent.

The series marks the long-awaited return of Steven S. DeKnight, creator of “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” and its follow-ups “Gods of the Arena,” “Vengeance,” and “War of the Damned.” DeKnight serves as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Rick Jacobson (“Ash vs. Evil Dead”) and Aaron Helbing (“The Flash”). Produced by Lionsgate Television, “Spartacus: House of Ashur” promises to deliver the same operatic mix of carnality, violence, and political intrigue that defined the franchise’s glory days—this time, with a twist of vengeance.
