The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but Sony and Marvel certainly haven’t. A new trailer has arrived for “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” bringing Tom Holland’s web-slinger back to theaters on July 31 alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Mark Ruffalo, and Jon Bernthal as the Punisher.
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the sequel picks up with Peter fighting crime full-time in a world that no longer remembers him following the events of “Spider-Man: No Way Home.” Meanwhile, the pressure of watching his former friends move on without him sparks a transformation Peter may be unable to control. That change may also be the only thing capable of stopping a powerful new villain whom no one can see.
While the new threat remains mysterious, the arrival of Frank Castle presents another big question: how does the fiercely violent Punisher fit into Spider-Man’s comparatively lighter, PG-13 world?
Bernthal recently acknowledged that tonal risk during an appearance on “Today,” admitting that he was “enormously protective” of the character as Castle made the leap from the TV-MA world of “The Punisher” and “Daredevil: Born Again” to the big screen.
“Frank Castle is a character I’m enormously protective of, and I think to come into this world tonally, it’s different,” Bernthal said. “It’s a real testament to Tom and to Destin, the director. I really believe that this is a Frank Castle that you’ll believe sort of walking out of that TV-MA world into this Spider-Man world. And I think it was done with real care. I can’t wait for people to see it.”
“Brand New Day” reunites Bernthal and Holland more than a decade after the actors helped one another record the audition tapes that landed them their respective Marvel roles. The pair were working together on the 2017 film “Pilgrimage” in Ireland at the time. They have now completed back-to-back movies together, with both also appearing in Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey.”
“It’s been such a gift and such a dream to sort of do two movies back-to-back with Tom and see how far he’s come,” Bernthal said. “He’s still this unbelievably generous and kind and great person, and now he’s this bona fide movie star.”
Alongside Holland, Bernthal, Zendaya, Sink, and Ruffalo, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” stars Jacob Batalon, Tramell Tillman, and Michael Mando. Cretton directs from a screenplay by Chris McKenna, Erik Sommers, and Justin Kuritzkes.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” opens exclusively in theaters on July 31, 2026. Watch the new trailer below.
