While Netflix is canceling a bunch of projects to curb overspending, there are some originals that keep chugging along thanks to their massive popularity. One of those shows is “Squid Game” which became the most talked-about genre series of 2021 and helped cement that foreign-made originals can compete with western genre stories like “Stranger Things.”
The massive hit that hails from South Korea is indeed getting a second season but don’t expect them to rush it. The show’s creator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk is about to shoot a movie, “K.O. Club,” which he claims is more violent than “Squid Game,” and he’s giving some insight about when to expect the next season to drop.

While speaking with Vanity Fair, the visionary creator revealed that he only has three pages of ideas written down for season two that will be eventually turned into a script. There will be more games (as expected), and the season might not be ready to binge until sometime between 2023 or 2024.
“Humanity is going to be put to a test through those games once again,” Hwang vaguely teased of the next season to Vanity Fair. “I want to ask the question, ‘Is true solidarity between humans possible?’”
We’ll have to wait for more concrete details on the next season but Seong Gi-hun’s return had previously been teased by the show’s creator last year.
