“Star Wars: Starfighter” director and producer Shawn Levy has taken to social media to share a brand-spanking new image from the set in the Italian Mediterranean (Sardinia), which features lead actors Ryan Gosling and youngster Flynn Gray in character riding on what looks to be a Star Wars universe boat.
Other cast members on the next big “Star Wars” film, after “The Mandalorian & Grogu” bows next year, include Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams.
While the movie takes place after the events of the recent Rey Skywalker trilogy, we’re still being kept in the dark about whether the project will ultimately link up to “Star Wars: New Jedi Order” or any of the other projects on the way.
“I feel a profound sense of excitement and honor as we begin production on Star Wars: Starfighter,” Levy said in an official statement back in August. “From the day Kathy Kennedy called me up, inviting me to develop an original adventure in this incredible Star Wars galaxy, this experience has been a dream come true, creatively and personally. Star Wars shaped my sense of what story can do, how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever. To join this storytelling galaxy with such brilliant collaborators onscreen and off is the thrill of a lifetime.”
Gosling, Dan Levine, Mary McLaglen, and Josh McLaglen are set as executive producers on “Starfighter,” and the movie has a script penned by Jonathan Tropper.
Disney had previously announced that “Star Wars: Starfighter” would be heading to theaters on May 28, 2027.
