Got a Tip?

Steven Soderbergh & Channing Tatum Bringing ‘Magic Mike: The Musical’ To Broadway Next Summer

nullWell, if wasn't obvious before, it is now: Steven Soderbergh and Channing Tatum are having a full on bromance. After appearing in a small role in "Haywire," it seems Soderbergh and Tatum really hit it off, with the former encouraging the latter to develop his idea about a movie based on his days stripping and then signing on to direct. The result, "Magic Mike," is currently looking at taking in over $30 million this weekend, a rather remarkable feat in June, when you consider there are no superheroes, toys, or brands to be found. Also, the pair recently wrapped on "The Bitter Pill" which hits theaters next spring. But it looks like they haven't left Club Xquisite just yet.

Just a couple of days after screenwriter Reid Carolin teased a Broadway show was in the works, Deadline reports that Soderbergh and Tatum are on board as producers (along with Carolin, Gregory Jacobs and Nick Wechsler) and "Magic Mike: The Musical" will be ready to have dollars bills stuffed down its thong next summer. Not much more in the way of details at this point except that Carolin will write the book, but we presume the show will focus more on the stripping/dancing than the economic woe undercurrents of the theatrical film (although, if they can make a musical number out of the bank loan scene, we'd be impressed).

This isn't the only Broadway show Soderbergh is working as "Cleo" is also knocking around, but if you thought his hiatus would be him sleeping in, watching Court TV, reading the newspaper, and then having a nap, you'd be dead wrong (although, we might do that this weekend).
