'Succession' Trailer: HBO's Series About An Aging Patriarch Of A Media Conglomerate Has A Clear Murdoch Influence

You might see the new trailer for the HBO series “Succession” and immediately think of the Murdoch family, best known for running Fox. That’s because the series creator, Jesse Armstrong hit the coveted Black List with an unproduced script about the family. However, with “Succession,” Armstrong decided to pull from various major families and corporations to tell the story of a major family-controlled media company that is going through a transition.

In the trailer, you’re introduced to the Roy family, a very rich and powerful family led by the aging patriarch, played by Brian Cox. As his media company begins to show signs of weakness, his children, played by Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, and Sarah Snook, are quick to pick up the slack and begin to plan who should take over the company. As you might imagine, this leads to backstabbing, plotting, and all sorts of family drama as the Roys fight amongst themselves for control of the massive media conglomerate.

Believe it or not, the series pilot is directed by Adam McKay, who started as a comedic director before helming the award-winning film “The Big Short.” As mentioned above, the series was created by Armstrong, who also wrote each episode.

“Succession” will premiere on HBO on June 3, with its first of 10 episodes. It looks like yet another strong entry in HBO’s catalog of quality TV. They may not produce the quantity of Netflix, but the quality still seems to be there.

Here’s the synopsis:

It’s rebellion. It’s sabotage. It’s family.
