Summer 2023 TV Preview: 40 Must-See Shows To Watch

“Angel City”
A three-part documentary series focused on the Los Angeles-based professional women’s soccer team, Angel City FC. The series looks at the origin story through to the 2022 inaugural season and what is needed to build a franchise. “Angel City” is directed by Arlene Nelson and produced by Natalie Portman, Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi, and Jimmy Chin.
Release Date: May 16 on HBO

“High Desert” 
After the death of her mother, Peggy Newman decides she is going to become a private investigator in her small town of Yucca Valley, California, despite her checkered past. Peggy is played by Patricia Arquette, who stars alongside Weruche Opia, Jayden Gomex, Christine Taylor, and Matt Dillon. Jay Roach directs all eight episodes.
Release Date: May 17 on Apple TV+.

“Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai”
This animated series is a prequel to Joe Dante’sGremlins” movies. Set in Shanghai in the 1920s, a 10-year-old boy named Sam finds a mogwai named Gizmo and sets out to return Gizmo to his home. Along the way, Sam, Gizmo, and a thief named Elle encounter numerous monsters and spirits. Among the voices you’ll hear are Matthew Rhys, Ming-Na Wen, James Hong, and BD Wong.
Release Date: May 23 on HBO Max.

“Platonic” 
From the director of “Neighbors,” “Platonic” tells the story of a pair of childhood friends who reconnect as adults and find their friendship consuming and destabilizing. The series stars Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne. This concept with these actors? **Chef’s Kiss**

“Mayans M.C.” Season 5
Mayans M.C. follows the life of Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes (J.D. Pardo), president of the Mayans M.C. charter on the Cali/Mexi border. Once a golden boy with the American Dream in his grasp, EZ has now risen to lead his brother Angel (Clayton Cardenas) and the Santo Padre M.C. in a bloody war against their rival Sons of Anarchy. 
Release Date: The final season airs May 24 on FX via Hulu.

The Clearing
“The Clearing” is an eight-part psychological thriller based on the best-selling crime thriller ‘In The Clearing’ by author J.P. Pomare, inspired by the darkness of real-life cults in Australia and around the world. Teresa Palmer (“Discovery of Witches”), Miranda Otto (“The Unusual Suspects,” “Homeland”), and Guy Pearce star.
Release Date: May 24 on Hulu.

American Born Chinese
Created by Kelvin Yu and directed by Lucy Liu and Destin Daniel Cretton (Marvel’sShang Chi”), the series centers on a high schooler struggling with his school and home life who becomes involved in a battle between gods of Chinese mythology. Starring Michelle Yeoh, Ben Wang, Stephanie Hsu, Yeo Yan Yann, Chin Han, Daniel Wu, and Ke Huy Quan.
Release Date: May 24 on Disney+.

“FUBAR” 
From creator Nick Santora, this buddy-cop comedy is centered around a father-daughter duo that discovers they both secretly work for the CIA and end up on the same mission. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Monica Barbaro star as the aforementioned duo, alongside Milan Carter, Gabriel Luna, Aparna Brielle, Adam Pally, and Fabiana Udenio.
Release Date: May 25 on Netflix.

“I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson”
The absurd and hilarious sketch series is returning for a third season. The cult hit for Netflix finds humor in some of the most ridiculous situations conceived. Previous seasons include sketches about a show about funeral mishaps, an incredibly harsh baby pageant, a really awkward ghost tour, and many, many more. Stars Tim Robinson, co-created by Zach Kanin and produced by Akiva Shaffer, Andy Samberg, and Jorma Taccone.
