'Superman': James Gunn Shares First Look At David Corenswet As The Man Of Steel

He’s going to wear the underwear on the outside, after all, huh? One of the biggest questions about the new “Superman” film from director James Gunn has finally been answered as the filmmaker has released the first official look at David Corenswet as the Man of Steel.

Obviously, this image is going to be dissected by the fandom immediately, but for those who are just curious what Corenswet will look like as Superman, the image gives us a good idea. Shockingly, he looks like, well, Superman. Crazy, isn’t it?

Perhaps most interesting about the image is what it isn’t. It’s not some glamour shot of Superman with his fists on his hips looking up to the sky, as he’s been shown countless times before. Hell, he’s not even doing any real pose. Instead, he’s sitting on a chair, adjusting his suit. It’s very non-superheroic, honestly. And that’s probably by design, as Gunn is clearly not Zack Snyder and this version of the Man of Steel is likely going to be more down-to-Earth versus the godlike Henry Cavill version.

Another tidbit of note is how dirty the suit looks in the image. Again, you might expect Gunn and Warner Bros. hoping to show Corenswet in the brightest, most colorful version of the suit possible. Instead, it’s clear this suit has been in a scrap or two.

We’re likely going to be inundated with images from Gunn’s “Superman” over time. The film isn’t expected to arrive in theaters until July 2025, so there’s plenty of time for the marketing machine to give us every angle of this suit. But for now, Gunn has given us a very new, interesting look at the suit. This is definitely not the Snyderverse.
