'Sweat' Trailer: Festival Breakout Drama Pulls Back The Veil On Social Media Fandom

For more than a year, the world’s social interactions have primarily taken place online. It’s no secret that social media doesn’t stack up against the real thing. In the Polish movie “Sweat,” fitness star Sylwia learns that lesson the hard way. In a move that feels all too relevant, the new trailer shows a woman keeping up appearances simply for the sake of social media.

The movie follows young Polish fitness instructor, Sylwia Zając, who has successfully monetized her massive social media to become a huge star. But despite her bright and shiny exterior, she can’t help but wonder if the fame is worth it. But in a moment of weakness, she tearfully confesses to her fans online that she wishes she had a boyfriend. The post goes viral and teaches Sylwia that online fandom isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

“Sweat” is written and directed by Magnus von Horn (“The Here After“). The movie stars Magdalena Kolesnik (“Warsaw ’44“), Julian Swiezewski (“The Passing Bells“), Aleksandra Konieczna (“The Last Family“), Zbigniew Zamachowski (“Three Colors: White“), and Tomasz Orpinski (“Television Theater“).
