Though T.J. Miller and Ryan Reynolds seemed like best buds in the two “Deadpool” films, that doesn’t seem to be the case in real life, according to Miller. Apparently, something happened between the two actors that is making it so Miller doesn’t want to work with Reynolds again.
In an interview on The Adam Corolla Show podcast, T.J. Miller talked about his “weird” relationship with Ryan Reynolds. As mentioned above, Miller co-starred in both “Deadpool” films alongside Reynolds and the duo appeared to have pretty great comedic timing in the finished product. But according to Miller, things changed between the two men during the filming of “Deadpool 2.”
“I got along with him a lot better on the first Deadpool because he wasn’t a huge, huge movie star,” Miller said. “Would I work with him again? No, I would not work with him again/ “But I’ve said that about Michael Bay, and now we’re friends, and I would work with him again. But I think Michael Bay is different.”
Miller added that “it’s weird that he hates me,” when talking about Reynolds. He then followed that up with a story from the set and said, “We had a really weird moment on ‘Deadpool’ where he said, ‘Let’s do one more take.’ And then as the character, he was horrifically mean to me as if I’m Weasel. So he was like, ‘You know what’s great about you, Weasel? You’re not the star, but you do just enough exposition so that it’s funny, and then we can leave and get back to the real movie.’”
After that, apparently, the relationship soured between them. Miller would go on, in the interview, to describe Reynolds as “kind of an insecure dude.” He then concluded that there’s no way he is going to show up in “Deadpool 3.”
“I would not have done ‘Deadpool 3’ if they came to me and were like, ‘We want you to do Deadpool 3, and we’re going to pay you twice as much,’” he said.
Of course, this is only one side of the situation. While Miller is coming out and saying that Reynolds is the cause of the issues between them and the reason he wouldn’t do “Deadpool 3,” there’s a high likelihood that the actor wouldn’t have been offered the new sequel anyway. Not only is the film set in the MCU, but Miller has had nothing but controversy follow him in recent years.
He famously left “Silicon Valley” at the height of the show’s popularity due to creative differences. However, later, it would come out that Miller had allegedly been a bit of a problem on the set, with various folks speaking out about his behavior. Then, of course, we can’t forget the numerous misconduct allegations that have come up against him, as well as the alleged bomb threat that he called in while on an Amtrak train.
All this to say, there very well might have been awkwardness on the set of “Deadpool” and T.J. Miller probably is telling the truth about not wanting to return for another film. But let’s not pretend that there’s also probably more to the story, as well.
