At this point, all the chatter about the forthcoming teen goth fave “New Moon” has been about the music, and with good reason. Alexandra Patsavas and her team over at Chop Shop have put together a formidable lineup including Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, Muse, Iron & Wine and Perry Farrell. Also joining the lineup are teen mixtape faves Death Cab For Cutie, whose original song “Meet Me On The Equinox” (a title that borders on parody) will be the lead single of the forthcoming soundtrack.
Well, a teaser of the song has hit the web and — it sounds exactly like a Death Cab For Cutie song. Plaintive singing, chiming guitars and probably cued to some overwrought moment (probably among many) in the film, the teaser isn’t earth-shattering but if you’re a fan, it’s worth a listen. The lyrics, on the other hand, are eye-rollingly direct, though it’s sure to set young hearts a-flutter. Here is just a taste:
“Meet me on the Equinox, meet me half way / when the sun is perched at its highest peak at the middle of the day / let me give my love to you, let me take your hand / and as we walk in the dimming light, oh darling understand/ that everything, everything ends/ that everything, everything ends.”
Eww. Is Ben Gibbard writing fan-fiction poetry now?
The soundtrack drops on October 20th. Pre-orders are now the available through the soundtrack’s official website in various editions, though the truly insane dedicated can drop $500 on a Limited Edition (50 only!) that really doesn’t justify the price except that you can get a plaque with your name on it commemorating over 2 million units sold (we guess the studio can see into the future or has some ridiculously high expectations for this).
In case anyone still cares at this point, the film itself opens on November 20th is about vampires, werewolves and very pale looking and undersexed teenagers looking pensive and hurt. Just let us know when the Thom Yorke track leaks, please.
