'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' Getting Rebooted AGAIN Courtesy Of 'A Quiet Place' Producers

Reporters flock to the red carpet lines for interviews with the biggest names in Hollywood in hopes that somewhere, somehow the person will slip up and let something major out. Normally, these actors and filmmakers are so well-trained in the art of diversion, nothing ever gets announced. But then, every once in a blue moon, a producer will drop some news that a major franchise is getting the reboot treatment by the end of the year.

Speaking on the red carpet of the Critics Choice Awards, producers Andrew Form and Bradley Fuller, who are responsible for the major hit film “A Quiet Place,” were being interviewed by Variety. They were asked the typical “What’s next?” question. And to the surprise of everyone, they were completely honest.

He dropped the bomb, “We’re doing a reboot of the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ at Paramount.”

Form continued, “[‘TMNT’] is looking like production by the end of the year.”

While the idea of a new ‘TMNT’ film is hardly news, the idea that the producers are looking to reboot the franchise so quickly after the 2014 reboot and 2016 sequel is surprising. But it appears that Form and Fuller are looking to do just that. Considering they were the minds behind the previous incarnation, one has to wonder exactly how much will actually change.

“We don’t have a director yet, but we have dates we’re trying to hit,” the producer added. Obviously, this is the sort of comment that draws ire from many film fans that feel major studio blockbusters suffer from this desire to hit deadlines and pushing forward with subpar scripts just to make it on time. But alas, this is the state of the film industry in 2019.

Form’s producing partner Bradley Fuller looked shocked that the news was being announced on the red carpet, but continued with explaining why the Turtles are coming back and why they’re still relevant after all these decades.

“The thing about the Turtles is the same thing about ‘A Quiet Place.’ It’s about a family and being invested in a family,” said Fuller.

When the comparison between ‘TMNT’ and John Krasinski’s award-winning horror film was made, it drew a chuckle from the interviewer. The producer smiled and clarified, “I say they are both family stories about the family sticking together and supporting one another.”

Whether or not you believe that “A Quiet Place” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” share any mutated DNA is not really the point. You can’t deny both films are about family, albeit there are many, many, many films about that theme, so yeah.

With production beginning by the end of 2019, it would appear that Paramount is hoping to have a new ‘TMNT’ film by either late 2020 or early 2021. We’ll keep an eye out for any news.
