90. “Elio”
Of all the big companies claiming less is more and putting franchise quality over quantity, Pixar may be the only one actually sticking to its guns. The only Pixar film for 2025, “Elio,” delayed and long in the works, is an original about an 11-year-old boy beamed up into space by aliens trying to make contact and surviving a series of formidable trials. The voice cast includes Yonas Kibreab, Jameela Jamil, Brad Garrett, and Zoe Saldaña and the filmmakers include “Turning Red” director Domee Shi, Madeline Sharafian (“Burrow”), and Adrian Molina (“Coco”).

89. “Predator: Badlands”
After successfully relaunching the “Predator” franchise with “Prey,” director Dan Trachtenberg returns for another kick at the can with “Predator: Badlands,” which shot rather quickly this summer and fall. Starring Elle Fanning, not too much else is known about it other than it follows, two sisters who discover their horrifying past while traversing a wasteland. Who plays the other sister? Your guess is as good as ours.

88. “The Naked Gun”
This reboot of “The Naked Gun” franchise starring Leslie Nielsen is directed by “Lonely Island”/”SNL” filmmaker Akiva Schaffer. It boldly chooses Liam Neeson, not exactly known for his comedy, as the lead star and bumbling detective Frank Dreben Jr. Co-stars include Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, Danny Huston, CCH Pounder, and Busta Rhymes.
Release Date: August 1, 2025, via Paramount.

87. “Tron: Ares”
Fifteen years after “Tron: Legacy” failed to jumpstart the “Tron” franchise, Disney returns again to give it another go. Joachim Rønning (“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”) takes over directing duties, and while Jeff Bridges reprises his iconic role from the two previous films, the rest of the cast is brand new. This installment stars Jared Leto along with Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Gillian Anderson, and it transports things from the digital world onto Earth.

86. “The Amateur”
An espionage thriller directed by James Hawes (“Dr. Who,” “One Life”) follows a CIA cryptographer who manages to blackmail his agency into training him to let him go after a group of terrorists who killed his wife in London. But the draw is the A-list cast: Rami Malek, Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Adrian Martinez, Laurence Fishburne, Holt McCallany, and Julianne Nicholson.

85. “Echo Valley”
Produced by Ridley Scott‘s Scott Free and written by “Mare Of Easttown” creator/writer Brad Ingelsby, “Echo Valley” is directed by Michael Pearce, known for 2021’s “Encounter” with Riz Ahmed. Starring Julianne Moore, Sydney Sweeney, and Domhnall Gleeson, it’s a mother/daughter story and thriller that examines how far a mother will go to save her child.

84. “The Monkey”
Following the smash hit of “Longlegs,” Neon’s highest-grossing film ever, director Osgoode Perkins returns six months later with “The Monkey,” a supernatural horror based on a Stephen King short story. Starring Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Christian Convery, Sarah Levy, and more, the creepy film centers on a monkey toy in an attic, the twin boys who find it, and the series of gruesome deaths that begin upon its discovery.

83. “Wolf Man”
Having already dazzled in the Monsters Universe with Blumhouse with the trauma-heavy “The Invisible Man,” filmmaker Leigh Whannell returns to the genre with a more grounded and realistic look at the “Wolf Man.” Christopher Abbott (“Girls“) and Julia Garner (“Ozark“) star as a married couple with a daughter who inherits a farmhouse home following the disappearance of the husband’s estranged father’s mysterious disappearance and presumed death. A bite from a wolf changes everything.
Release Date: January 17, 2025.
82. “Havoc”
“The Raid” director Gareth Evans pivoted to Netflix for 2018’s “The Apostle,” and he continues with the streamer for the Tom Hardy-led vehicle, “Havoc.” Forest Whitaker Timothy Olyphant, Justin Cornwell, and Jessie Mei Li co-star in a story about a detective who must fight his way through a criminal underworld while untangling his city’s dark web of conspiracy and corruption.
Release Date: Early 2025 via Netflix.
81. “In the Grey”
In 2023, prolific filmmaker Guy Ritchie released two films, in 2024, it was a film and a series he directed the bulk of, and 2025 is looking like another two-film year. The first is “In The Grey,” an action thriller that reunites him with Jake Gyllenhaal (“The Covenant”) and ‘Ungentlemanly Warfare’ stars Henry Cavill and Eiza González. The film centers on a group that operates in the middle of criminality and the law, searching for billions of dollars in stolen cash. Rosamund Pike and Fisher Stevens co-star.
Release Date: Recently delayed from its January date by Lionsgate, surely, it’ll arrive later in the year.
