70. “Superman”
After a disastrous 2023 and 2024 (the ‘Joker 2’ flop), everything rides on writer/director James Gunn’s Superman,” the first in what is supposed to be a ten-project DC Studios plan. David Corenswet stars as Superman, alongside Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and several DC superheroes, Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), plus María Gabriela de Faría, Sara Sampaio, Skyler Gisondo, Terence Rosemore, Wendell Pierce and many more.

69. “Jurassic World Rebirth”
Written by original “Jurassic World” director David Koepp and directed by Gareth Edwards (“Rogue One”), ‘Rebirth’ is set five years after “Jurassic World: Dominion,” but starts fresh with an entirely new cast. The big ensemble includes Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, Audrina Miranda, Philippine Velge, Bechir Sylvain, and Ed Skrein.
Release Date: July 2, 2025, via Universal.

68. “Thunderbolts*”
Marvel finally does its own anti-hero “Suicide Squad”-esque film. Directed by Jake Schreier (Netflix’s “Beef”), the plot centers on a group of anti-heroes—Black Widow (Florence Pugh), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) tasked by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) to take out the mysterious Bob (aka Sentry played by Lewis Pullman), but realize they are caught in a double cross.  Sebastian Stan as Bucky and David Harbour as Red Guardian join the fold alongside Geraldine Viswanathan, Wendell Pierce, and more.
Release Date: May 2, 2025, via Marvel and Disney.

67. “Tornado” 
Almost 10 years after his acclaimed debut “Slow West,” filmmaker John Maclean returns with a 1790s period piece survival thriller about a young and determined Japanese woman who finds herself caught in a perilous situation when she and her father’s traveling puppet Samurai show crosses paths with a gang of ruthless Scottish criminals. The film stars Tim Roth, Jack Lowden, Takehiro Hira from “Shōgun,” Rory McCann, and Robbie Ryan serves as the film’s DP.
Release Date: TBD, but Hanaway Films in the U.K. are producing

66. “Mercy”
A science fiction thriller directed by Timur Bekmambetov (“Wanted”), “Mercy” stars Rebecca Ferguson and Chris Pratt. The film is set in the near future and follows a detective (Pratt) who is accused of a violent crime and forced to prove his innocence. Annabelle Wallis, Kali Reis, Chris Sullivan, and more co-star.
Release Date:  August 15, 2025, via Amazon MGM Studios, who apparently plan a big theatrical release.

65. “The Fantastic Four: First Steps”
After two theatrical franchise misfires, Marvel’s first family returns home to the MCU for the first time in “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” Directed by “WandaVision” helmer Matt Shakman, the film stars Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch, Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing, plus Ralph Ineson as Galactus and Julia Garner as one of the Silver Surfers. The film does away with an origin story for the most part and finds the team in action in an alternative universe in the 1960s that is space-age retro-futurist, far more advanced than Earth 616, and not unlike “The Jetsons.” Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, and Natasha Lyonne co-star.

64. “Good Fortune”
Following his Netflix series, “Master Of None,” writer/director Aziz Ansari’s directorial debut, “Being Mortal,” starring Seth Rogen and Keke Palmer, was shut down because of an inappropriate behavior complaint aimed at co-star Bill Murray. Ansari soldiered on, and his new debut, the comedy “Good Fortune” centers on a well-meaning but rather inept angel named Gabriel (Keanu Reeves) who meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker (Ansari) and a wealthy capitalist (Seth Rogen). Palmer also co-stars.
Release Date: October 17, 2025.

63. “The Roses”
Filmmaker Jay Roach (“Bombshell”) has seemingly officially left comedy for good, and now is in the Adam McKay vein of Oscar-friendly dramas. His latest is a reimagining of “The Wars Of The Roses” stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman who play a competitive couple whose resentments are ignited when the husband’s professional dreams come crashing down. Andy Samberg, Kate McKinnon, Ncuti Gatwa and more co-star.
Release Date: TBD via Searchlight Pictures, and perhaps a fall film festival title. 

62. “Mayday” 
Directed by the “Game Night” and “Dungeons & Dragons” guys, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, direct Ryan Reynolds in a big action-adventure tentpole for Apple. Set sometime during the Cold War, Reynolds plays a reconnaissance pilot whose mission over Soviet territory goes awry, forcing him to crash-land and survive in the Russian wilderness while evading capture or rescue. Kenneth Branagh, Maria Bakalova, Clark Johnson, and Louis Cancelmi.
Release Date: TBD, but so far Apple likes putting Ryan Reynolds movies out in the fall.

61. “The Gorge”
While his Marvel days are over, and “The Black Phone 2” horror has already been announced for summer 2025, director Scott Derrickson has to finish what might be his most ambitious film so far first. Made by Apple and reportedly on a big budget, the mystery film is described as a high-action, genre-bending love story. “Queen’s Gambit” breakout star Anya Taylor-Joy, Miles Teller of “Top Gun: Maverick” fame, and Sigourney Weaver star.
Release Date: TBD via Apple Films.
