‘The Batman’: Zoe Kravitz Watched Real Cat Fights To Learn How Catwoman Might Actually Win Against Batman

While we’re not 100% sure what “The Batman” plot is, we know many villains are showing up for Robert Pattinson’s Caped Crusader to trade blows with. The big one is obviously The Riddler (played by Paul Dano), but we also know The Penguin (Colin Farrell) is expected to show up. And maybe, just maybe, one of the biggest villains will make an appearance. However, we also know Catwoman plays a role in the film, prowling that line between good and evil that she does so well. And to get that prowl just right, actress Zoe Kravitz decided to watch some nature docs.

Speaking to Empire, Zoe Kravitz, who plays Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman, in “The Batman,” explained how she prepared for her role as the sometimes villain, sometimes love interest of Bruce Wayne, aka Batman. And more importantly, she had to figure out how someone her size would physically compete in a fight against Robert Pattinson’s armored hero? The answer appeared in nature documentaries, apparently.

“We watched cats and lions and how they fight and talked about what is actually possible when you’re my size and Batman’s so much stronger than me,” explained Kravitz. “What is my skill? It’s being fast and tricky. So we did some really interesting floor work that incorporated different kinds of martial arts and capoeira and a kind of feline, dance-like movement.”

But those hoping to get a definitive Catwoman story in “The Batman” might be in for a bit of a bummer. You see, we already know from the marketing that The Riddler is the main baddie in the film, and apparently, Matt Reeves’ new feature is more of an introduction to Catwoman, who will likely have more appearances in the future.

“This is an origin story for Selina,” she says. “So, it’s the beginning of her figuring out who she is, beyond just someone trying to survive. I think there’s a lot of space to grow, and I think we are watching her become what I’m sure will be the femme fatale.”

“The Batman” is set to arrive in theaters on March 4, 2022.
