'The Deuce' Final Season Trailer: HBO's Acclaimed Drama Is Back for One Last Round

The final season of “The Deuce” is coming. But is the end a bit premature?

Despite a TV landscape with series regularly getting 4 or 5 seasons, with some going into the teens, the HBO series is only just about to enter its third season. “The Deuce” has attracted critical acclaim since it first dropped in 2017. This is why it came as a surprise to many when it was announced that Season 3 would be its last. Creators George Pelecanos and David Simon, of the previous HBO hits “The Wire” and “Treme,” claim that they always had a three-season plan in mind for “The Deuce.” But some wonder if the multiple sexual claims against star James Franco over the last few years can be to blame for the show’s early demise.

Franco leads the cast in dual roles — as twins Frankie and Vincent, the later of who is on the way to becoming a mogul within the porn industry. The show chronicles the birth of the porn industry in various time periods in New York. Season 1 takes place in 1971, and Season 2 jumped all the way to 1977. Now, the final season will wrap things up in 1980s New York. Franco is joined by Maggie Gyllenhaal, a former porn actress who transitions into the producing and directing side of the industry.
