'The Fantastic Four': Rahul Kohli Talks About Losing Mr. Fantastic Role To Pedro Pascal

Almost as interesting as news of who is cast in the next big superhero film is the news about who almost made the cut. And with the cast of “The Fantastic Four” being announced a few months ago, we know who will be starring in the Marvel Studios film. But who didn’t make the cut? Well, one name that we now know is Rahul Kohli.

Speaking with Salaam Nerds, Rahul Kohli talked about what it’s like to be a name that gets thrown in the mix of fancasting, where fans come up with their dream picks for superhero roles. And in discussing this, Kohli dropped the bomb that he actually was a name in the auditioning process for “The Fantastic Four.”

“Yeah, I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about it. I didn’t get it, is the important thing,” said Kohli.

This revelation came about after talking about fancasting. Kohli, as with many actors, shows up in speculation and fancasting quite often. Many people thought of him as a good choice for Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, and it appears he thought the same. Unfortunately it didn’t work out.

But regarding fancasting, Kohli said it is great when you’re having a good day, but the inverse is also true.

“It will flare up once and again. And, I love all of them,” he said. “On good days, you’re like, ‘Man, I’m wanted!’ People really want to see. You’re the guy that people will shout out for anything. And on bad days, it’s just a reminder that you’re not the guy. You’re not there. And these are the roles you’ll never get.”

Obviously, when it comes to “The Fantastic Four,” Kohli lost out to Pedro Pascal for the role of Mr. Fantastic. It would have been the biggest role of Kohli’s career, as he is probably best known for work on projects such as “iZombie,” “Midnight Mass,” and most recently, “Death and Other Details.”

“The Fantastic Four” is expected to begin production soon, as it is set for a July 25, 2025 release date.
