If it’s not obvious, already, “The Flash” looks like it will be the most pivotal film in the modern-day, post-Snyderverse DC Universe. In fact, “The Flash,” which looks like a big event film, and will include more than just Barry Allen (Ezra Miller), looks like it might be the equivalent of “Captain America: Civil War,” a solo film with lots of guest stars that had major implications for the MCU. Now, at today’s DC Fandome streaming event, a first-look teaser] of the film was revealed.
In true teaser fashion, not much is revealed; Miller admitted as much in his intro, signaling that they did not have a full trailer or teaser to share with audiences. What we did get, though, was pretty enticing – we hear Michael Keaton‘s voice as he questions Barry Allen, and we are treated to a few shots of a rundown Batcave and the speeders that are turning to Bruce Wayne for help. As for the potential of what we’ve seen, though – it’s unlimited.
As you likely already know, “The Flash” film is directed by Andy Muschietti, written by Christina Hodson, and is loosely based on the “Flashpoint” comic book storyline: Barry Allen travels back in time to prevent his mother’s murder, which brings unintended consequences to his timeline. You mess with time, strange things happen, essentially.
And this new look teases one of the stranger things that happens to the multiverse when it’s cracked open: Keaton returns as an older version of Bruce Wayne/Batman from the Tim Burton/ Warner Bros.‘ films of the late 80s and 90s. Ben Affleck is back as the modern-day Bruce Wayne/Batman too, but it’s understood that it will be a smaller part, make way for his exit from the DCEU, and instead, permanently reintroduce Keaton’s Batman as a mainstay in this universe, got it? (It’s also been said Keaton will stick around as a “Batman Beyond“/Nick Fury-like character that will mentor and advise all the younger characters). Another adverse effect of the time-travel will be introducing Supergirl (Sasha Calle) to the DC Universe.
“The Flash” also features Kiersey Clemons, Maribel Verdú, Ron Livingston and there have been plenty of unsubstantiated rumors that other DC characters joining the movie like Wonder Woman and potentially Cyborg. Time will tell if those rumors turn out to be true. In the meantime, enjoy the first taste of “The Flash” below, which r races into theaters November 4, 2022.
