'The Front Room': Brandy To Star In A24 Horror Film Directed By Eggers Brothers

Robert Eggers and A24 made two massively successful horror movies together: 2015’s “The Witch” and 2019’s “The Lighthouse.” Now A24 wants to see what some of the other Eggers brothers can do behind the camera.

Variety reports that A24 and Max and Sam Eggers, Robert’s siblings, will team up for a new psychological horror movie, “The Front Room.” It’s the duo’s feature filmmaking debut. They’ll adapt the screenplay for the film from Susan Hill‘s short story of the same name. The movie follows a young, newly pregnant couple forced to take in an ailing stepmother who has long been estranged from the family.

’90s pop star Brandy Norwood, or Brandy, stars in the upcoming film. She’s no stranger to movies, despite her heyday in them being about twenty-five years ago. She starred in the 1997 Disney TV film “Cinderella,” as well as the 1999 TV film “Double Platinum.” Her horror credentials are a little better: the 1998 sequel “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.” “The Front Room” also stars Kathryn HunterAndrew Burnap, and  Neal Huff.

Although they don’t have the same star power as their brother Robert, both Eggers brothers have filmmaking experience. Max Eggers co-wrote “The Lighthouse” with Robert, while Sam was a production assistant on “The Witch.” Sam also wrote and edited the 2018 documentary “Olympia,” about the career of Academy Award-winning actress Olympia Dukakis.

So, does supreme filmmaking talent run in the Eggers family? Whatever the case, A24 foots the bill on “The Front Room,” both financing and distributing the film. Meanwhile, Robert Eggers’ filmmaking future is wide open now that his remake of “Nosferatu” is too far in the weeds to move forward.
