'Confess, Fletch' Trailer: Jon Hamm Takes Over As The Irreverent, Troublesome Investigative Reporter On September 16

Chevy Chase immortalized George Mcdonald‘s irreverent investigative reporter Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher in 1985’s “Fletch” and 1989’s “Fletch Lives.” Since then, however, no one’s dared take on the Fletch mantle, although some have considered Kevin Smith and Jason Lee, Bill Lawrence and Zach Braff, and even Jason Sudeikis.

Well, it turns out Jon Hamm is up to the challenge, as he takes on the role of Fletch in “Confess, Fletch,” in theaters and VOD this September. Based on Mcdonald’s novel of the same name, this romp sees Fletch as the prime suspect in a murder case while he searches for a stolen art collection.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis:

In this delightful comedy romp, Jon Hamm stars as the roguishly charming and endlessly troublesome Fletch, who becomes the prime suspect in a murder case while searching for a stolen art collection. The only way to prove his innocence? Find out which of the long list of suspects is the culprit—from the eccentric art dealer and a missing playboy to a crazy neighbor and Fletch’s Italian girlfriend. Crime, in fact, has never been this disorganized.

Alongside Hamm, “Confess, Fletch” also stars Roy Wood Jr., Annie Mumolo, Ayden Mayeri, Lorenza IzzoKyle Maclachlan and Marcia Gay Harden round out the main cast.  “Superbad” director Greg Mottola directs “Confess, Fletch,” and co-writes the script with Zev Borrow.

So, how will Fletch clear his name and solve the case this time? Hamm may be the new actor, but it’s bound to be the same old Fletch. Catch “Confess, Fletch” when the movie hits theaters and VOD on September 16. Following the film’s limited theatrical run and on VOD, the film will stream exclusively on Showtime starting October 28.
